Kashmiri designer makes it to Asian Designer Week


Srinagar: Young designer from Kashmir, Shahid Rashid Bhat along with SSMD School of Design and Management finally made it to India’s most prestigious international fashion show, Asian Designer Week, to display Kashmiri outfits on the ramp worn by international models in New Delhi.

Eight Kashmiri outfits with Kashmiri Tilla work were showcased in the show which began on May 5.

Shahid, also a visiting faculty of SSMD, showcased the recent Pheran on an international model which he has recently designed. His latest dress – Pink Baby Doll Dress was also showcased by an Ireland model which grabbed great attention.

Shahid Rashid and SSMD students visited different workshops in the industry. Also, they got a chance to walk on ramp as show stoppers.

The show was thrilled up as there were worldwide famous designers from Kashmir, Kazakistan to Italy and Germany.

Speaking on the occasion, Director, SSMD School of Fashion and Design, Insha Qazi said SSMD aims to provide a creative platform to students and designers.

She said that encouraging participants in such events acts as a catalyst in order to empower youth so that they generate self-employment opportunities. (KNS)
